It sounds like "The Way of the Gun", a 2000 crime film starring Benicio Del Toro and Ryan Phillippe.
It's opening scene features Phillippe punching Sarah Silverman in the face and Del Toro stomping on a woman's foot outside a bar before being beaten by a mob of bystanders who don't approve of their treatment of women.
