Maybe the path to the spirit is crooked, downward and disturbing (like a lesson or a test) and the soul is what we make it. We should acknowledging both our light and dark side (a challenge in itself). Is there something or somethings we are suppose to learn or know or do while here . Is it the same or different for each person? We don't all start at the same point or end the same way. We don't all start with the same bodily vehicles to go through it with or experience the same situations. Whatever reason, if there is one, we all have to go through it. We all know in the end, or not. Maybe not knowing is in our best interest.

The difference between soul and spirit is consciousness (the level thereof)
Our spirit existed before our soul was created. Our spirit keeps the knowledge of its identity with God. Our soul has the ability to experience the activities of the mind in a manner separate from God.
To say that the path to the spirit is different from the path to the soul is like saying I'm going to take a different way to work today. The destination is the same, but the drive there may look different (trees and sky as opposed to many cars and backed up freeways)
However, you are right. Since the "soul" has the ability to experience, and the spirit "just knows" it may seem that the soul's path is darker, harder etc...
And yes, I agree. To have light, one must have seen darkness to comprehend (thank the soul for that! ☺)
A perfect balance is light and dark. White and Black. Male and Female. When one has balanced this, it is now (imagine a circle, a yin-yang---) complete.
A balanced being (yin-yang, circle) is pure. It is of God. Therefore, the darker half, so to speak, is now filled with light. Making it good, pure, light-not dark.
To ignore the "dark side," we are refusing to balance ourselves. Instead, we should be aware of this, and work to improve it, or should I say balance our entirety.

I believe it's almost impossible to separate the two. The soul is your intellect, power to reason, beliefs, etc. The spirit is your breath. But life is said to be in the blood and breath. W/o one of the two you cease to live.
I think short of severe mental impairment we're all aware we have a dark side. We don't talk about it, maybe hide it from others or call it righteous anger but none of us are above it. We learn to control those negative instincts when possible.
The Bible says even Jesus grew in wisdom & from the things He suffered. He couldn't have been tempted w/o a dark side. Temptation holds no power unless there is desire. He knew who he was and what he would suffer first going the Father's way but restrained that desire and followed God instead.
Temptation isn't sin. Nor is having the desire to do wrong sin. It's the acting upon it that's sin. Our purpose is to make a positive difference that we lived. We'll always make mistakes and even under some situations deliberately do wrong. It's called free will because we make the choice.

No, the path to spirit is about 355 degrees on the gyro, with a little left turn at the end. I am acknowledging my dark side today. I turned around and looked at the dark.... boy am I getting tan from facing that light!

We absolutely need to acknowledge both our light and dark side. My purpose is to be transformed from crooked, downward and disturbing into the expressed image of good. It is well worth the effort. If I would of continued to just be lazy and accept myself for who I was I would be in one of three places.
1. Jail
2. Mental Ward
3. Dead

I hear the path to the soul is under construction. I'd advise taking an alternate route in the immediate future.

You can walk the 'straight and narrow' path and never realize that it twists and turns and leads to circles until you actually come full circle. Even then, few are aware. 'Naive' is innocent until accused whether guilty or not.
