It is a very reliable form of hormonal birth control, however, nothing is 100%.
The biggest side effect of Depo is a "change" in bleeding patterns, which can mean no bleeding to daily bleeding to ANYTHING in between. (many women report NO bleeding afyter 4 injections over one year period)Also, there are other side effects, too, and the fact that it lasts for 3 months, if the side effects are annoying or unwanted, you may have them until the shot wears off.
BUT, you won't worry about forgetting your pill or other method, so that is a good thing.

All contraception/birth control is never ever 100% protection against pregnancy. Periods may lighten or stop or get heavy or more irregular, depends on person. I got heavier, laster 6weeks with 2 week intervals and hated it. Got an IUD this year. Wonderful, bliss, excellent, highly recommend. Have heard many more bad things about depo than good.

I was on Depo for 10 years and I only had maybe 5 periods that whole time. I never got preg but I gained a lot of weight. They say it is technically possible to get preg but I don't think that really ever happens. Good Luck!

When I was on the depo. shot my periods stopped all together, and I didn't get pregnant when I was on it. It took me 6 months to get pregnant after I was off of the depo. for my periods and everything to get back to normal.

My periods stopped for the entire almost 2 years I was on it...until I got pregnant and m/c while I was on it.

So, just in case you missed that...yes, you can get pregnant on the depo, many women have. I did and I miscarried too.

I know someone that got pregnant on the shot. nothing is 100% effective. When I was on it, my periods stopped, but I would spot from time to time. I never really had a problem with it, I didn't gain any weight or anything.

yes you can get pregnant on depo. i know a few people that, as well as myself, but i had misscarried. no birth control is 100 percent effective.

loosing your period well on depo is perfectly common too.

I know someone who did, and she was faithful about getting her shots as they weren't planning on having children. The doctor almost didn't catch the prgnancy. No birth control is 100%, even if used correctly.
