You'll understand this if you read the references. You have cone cells in your eye sensitive to three different parts of the visual spectrum. Your brain perceives color by the relative strength of the signal from these three sensors. With a spectrograph, you could tell the difference between monochromatic green light and a mix of monochromatic blue and yellow light. But your eye can't tell the difference. It's an amazing system that lets you perceive a rich range of colors using sensors at only three wavelengths.

yellow plus blue = green
red plus yellow = orange
blue plus red = kinda violet ...
combinations of combinations ? Crap ... this would be endless. Just a get a so called colorists table, then youo'll know better. Besides also sinmple combinations aren't always like ai said, because it always depends on density of the color and percentage of mixture.

Lic. Electrician has it right, just make sure the ballast label includes the lamp type you installing in the fixture, as long as the lamp type is listed it doesn't matter how the old one was wired. (A ballast designed for T8 one inch diameter lamps will not properly fire a T12 inch and a half lamp.) The red will be split by a wirenut or daisy chained to one end of each lamp, usually attached to yellow(s), the blues will attach one wire each to the opposite end of the lamps, usually one blue to blue(s), other blue to red(s). If you want details provide the old and new ballast brand and model.

Green, orange, purple....mix them all together and you'd get black...or a putrid greenish, brownish black.
