Who do I write concerning lighting in my community to preserve dark skies?

Question

I would like to get involved in helping to preserve the night sky for amateur astronomers like myself and wondered who to write and any sample writings you have done.

It certainly isnt going to be anyone like you jh. It has to do with astronomy if you took time to read. But I dont imagine you do much of that..........

I haven't written anyone, so I cannot give you samples. However, I would start with your city or town hall, and address the matter initially to the clerk's office.

Their web site is full of good solid information, and success stories of local individuals and groups who have taken action against light pollution. Highly recommended!

I live a few kilometres south of Torrance Barrens, the world's first dark sky preserve, by the way.

start with your local government, city,town, village officials. many are becoming more aware of light pollution.. if that gets only a negative response. talk to your friends and neighbors and explain the problem. you may be able to create a petition that will get the attention of local officials. also gater some of the information offered by the dark skies group to present to your local officials. good luck.

xc Preserve the night sky ??? What the hell is that ? I have never ever heard about such action and cannot imagine it ... Tell me, who is gonna "change" the night sky ? LOL
