a book was written about a town and a lot of peoples lives were written about without them knowing about it untill the book was published

Doesn't make it illegal, LOTS of info is public information! As long as they used only public info, read it and enjoy. You and I cannot control the info that is already public. Like that picture of Britanny Spears without any underwear on, do you think it would still be making the rounds if she had anything to do with it? How about the picture of Paris Hilton's sex tape? etc, etc, etc.

If they used actual names, life stories, in a nonfictional manner without permission then there may be case especially if it slanderous in any way. However, if they've changed the names and stories even in a small way and called it fiction then probably not. A lawyer would be the best person to ask.

There is a freedom of speach clause in the constitution..they are allowed to do so as long as what is written is the truth,nothing slanderous..as far as the pictures are concerned....They also are allowed to do this as long as they were not obtained illegally like breaking and entering, etc..

If you can prove its you, you are intitled to the profits, but if they don't pay up you have the rights to sue, and you'd win, they are not allowed to do that!
