Because the mystery country you seem to be talking about has a constitutional monarchy. The so called royal family is the figure head, partially because they have been for so many centuries.Why take it away?

many people think that the queen still has all the power, when that is not true. the royal family in england is part of the country's culture. many english citizens like the queen because she really is a nice old lady, and when charles takes the throne there are enough laws in place that he won't be able to make much of a difference. if you are interested in this, watch the movie "the queen" it is very good. the queen is there to represent and look out for the welfare of the people, she is our servant. i think it's nice that another power is looking out for my countrymen when our prime minister wasn't doing his job correctly. wouldn't you want someone looking after the american people other than the president if he wasn't doing his job?

Why, oh why, indeed. Remove the lot, confiscate their property, titles and investments and let those under 60 find real jobs while awarding those aged 60 and over the basic state retirement pension.

Good question. I admire the Queen and I think she should reign as long as she is able but that then the rest of them should be pensioned off, or if they're already rich, give a wave goodbye and thanks for the memories.
