It's a common thing in pregnancy.Hair often grow and get stronger cause the women's hormones aren't the way they should be.There's nothing wrong about it since in most cases it goes after having the baby.

Don't worry :)

It is not your hair, it is the pigment of your skin

Linea negra

(Redirected from Linea nigra)

Linea nigra dark midline streakLínea nigra (Latin for "black line") or línea negra (altered by influence of Spanish negra) refers to the black vertical line that appears on the abdomen during pregnancy. The brownish streak is usually about a centimeter in width. The line runs vertically along the midline of the abdomen from the pubis to the xiphoid process - the bottom-most part of the rib cage in the center or tip of the sternum.

It is caused by pregnancy hormones that increase production of the pigment melanin, also known as hyperpigmentation. Why this process of hyperpigmentation occurs in a straight vertical line is uncertain. Fair-skinned women show this symptom less often than women with darker pigmentation. Before it appears it may be more faintly visible as a línea alba ("white line").

Línea negra tends to appear around the second trimester and may or may not disappear within a few months after birth. Some research suggests there may be a link between linea nigra and insulin. Supplementing the diet with folic acid is said to reduce the discoloration.

There is an old wives' tale associated with línea negra: if the línea negra runs to the navel, it's a girl, and if it goes all the way up to the xiphoid, it's a boy.

Yes! Many women get hairs on their belly, face, etc when pregnant as a result of all the hormones they have running wild in their bodies.

I've been told though that they fall out naturally on their own after the pregnancy as the hormone levels drop on their own again.

The line is called a "linea nigra" and is completely normal during pregnancy. I didn't get it with either, but my girlfriend has it now (18wks) and with her 1st too.
My hair also grew and grew and grew! Something like 10inches while pregnant. and my finger nails and skin were prefect and strong when pregnant. then when i stopped breastfeeding at 8mths my hair started falling out (not noticebale bald patches) in clumps and went dull and wouldn't grow for 6mths and my nails go weaker again.

Good luck and congrats!

Hiya

lol i know the feeling i am almost 17 wks pregnant and like you i have this line of hair its fine but quite dark from my belly button downwards. Its normal i am told, also the hair on your head becomes thicker and fuller, hairs on your arms legs etc also grow quicker than before. (That's normal and i have found that too). you will find that your nails may grow quicker and be stronger than before too.

Yeah it happens. Some women get more hair while their pregnant, some dont.
I haven't gotten much more hair growth, my arms n legs are the same as normal, but I do have a little extra on my belly

Yes this is normal, a lot of women get this.

Not that I got it when I carried, but a few of my friends did.

It's nothing to worry about, some also get hair around the nipple area too.

I am thinking maybe you always have had that but you are only noticing it because you are pregnant? I have always had a small amount of fine blonde hair there, it didn't change with pregnancy.

Yes this is very common because you're hormones are going wacky. You'll see hair grow in places you didn't know were even possible. It's normal.
