There are so many nice boys names so it does depend on whether or not you want to name your son following a family tradition or your nationality or ancestory - this will determine whether or not you would want older names or modern variants or a mixture of the two!
I do think you have to be careful with lad's names more than girls - I think we can get away with a lot more - it does have to be one that can be used throughout the different milestones of his life so picture him being called a particular name when he is a baby, teen, young man, old man etc.
Incidentally I like the name Shea, (my son's name), which is an old irish name but has only really been heard of more frequently in the last decade!
I also liked Brody but my Dad said it sounded too american!?! I can still picture the disbelief in his face as he swung his head round after appearing to ignore the whole baby name conversation and saying "BRODY - BLOODY BRODY, you are flucking joking aren't you?). Very amusing!
I also loved Augustus but my mother's words made the difference when she said "Augustus - yeah great, and what are you going to do if he grows up to be a shy, timid lad"? So I would say think about names that are particularly stereotypical with a certain personality or physical trait!
(There are names that I have thought are nice until I have read their meanings and discovered that one meant Bald One and another Crooked Nose - seriously, research the origins behind the name) LOL
Good Luck - you'll probably change your mind at least three times over and then decide on something entirely different right on the last minute!

As a teacher, every time I hear a name, I think of a child I've taught - and it's usually the awful kids who stand out the most - so it's really hard to find any name which doesn't belong to some awful boy.
You have to decided why you choose a name for a child. In the Johnny Cash song, a father thought it would help his son grow up tough if he was called Sue.
Do you want a boy who always has to explain his name, or how to spell it?
If you give it to them to make them stand out, it might not be what they want for themselves.
My son's friend has changed his name by deed-poll to Kaos. That has a certain ring to it, don't you think?

Zack is a nice name but if you want a more traditional name what about Thomas or Jack. Although I have a little boy called Jack and he can be a bit troblesome sometimes!
