In light of all the reportings, etc., do you think this might work? Instead of having a "report" button, or even in addition to it if Yahoo wants to keep it, having an auto-delete. This way if a troll answers your question disrespectfully, poof, you blast the answer right off of your question.

This might have some merit to it. What do you think?

As far as removing any answer you don't like, well that is up to the individual, just as answering any question is up to the individual. It puts more control in our hands rather than being at the mercy of whoever decides they need to put offensive material on our questions.

I am not talking about constructive criticism. I am talking about offensive material. And in any case, it would be up to the owner of the question what they deem offensive. I see no point in leaving answers on that simply tell people to "get a life" or call them a juvenile name. That is not constructive criticism.

Weatherman, point taken. You will always have flaws in any method you employ unfortunately.

SGT PEPPER: You would be able to keep your points for answering, just be deleted if your answer is rude, crude or socially unacceptable.

And I am talking about deleting for your OWN questions, not others.

Of course YA listens to our suggestions. This is why the site is constantly changing. I do applaud them for really trying to listen and then give us what we ask for. The problem is..... you can't please everyone.... and even in trying to please the masses, there are those that always find ways to make the new features have some sort of negative form.

Like your suggestion. I think most of us would use that ONLY to delete the offensive stuff. But there are definitely going to be those that will take an amazing answer and delete it out of jealousy or competition or some reason that would never be understood. I like the suggestion above that takes your idea and perhaps gives that out as a reward earned at upper levels once people have learned to appreciate the time and effort put into asking and answering on the site. It would be a great incentive perhaps. I think I would trust level 5,6 and 7 people to do the right thing. Heck..... it might even be a deterant to others to misbehave. Who knows. It's always hard to tell with such a large and varied population such as this.

Nice thinking!

This could work if..say...the ability was activated after level 3 or 4. This way, trolls would be unable to just go through deleting everyone's answers. And maybe by level 3, people would be sensible enought to accept the opinions of others.

Oooohh...you mean the ASKER have the ability to do that. Hmmm....maybe if having your answer deleted by the asker allowed you to keep 1 of the points you gained from answering, so that if a truly useful answer was given, but the asker didn't agree, at least partial credit would be given.

i totally agree. people are wasting my time with being rude and not even answering the questions. not only that but if they report you they sould autmatically be blocked from you so they dont have to worry about being "supposedly offended" anymore. i mean if they have no way to view your questions then the offense is taken away and you dont have to keep getting violated or suspended or even deleted because of a "hater"

it's probably not a good idea. then people could just delete answers they don't agree with... i think a better solution would be to have some of the y!a staff patrolling around occasionally.... otherwise, usually the people who give insulting one-line responses (like "get a life") are usually level 1 newbies anyways, just give them a thumbs down and they should get the idea that their responses aren't funny

Not really, because users would just use it to delete any answers they disagree with

OK - In response to additional info - Lets take the Religion section.

The facility to remove answers there would lead to anything that doesn't follow the askers personal views being deleted, and the askers using this to claim everyone agrees with them.

Try the next directry...they do swimwear for larger women but it is also great for pregnant women as it offers support and dosn't make you look frumpy. My advice would be to look on the net as there are many webpages out there that specialise in maternity wear that actually looks nice!

Oh, if I could only count the times I could get rid of some asssholes answer that was either an ignorant stupid statement, or an insult.....there would be more than I could count. Great idea, you should take it straight to the top.

I don't think YA considers any of our suggestions for improvements otherwise it would be harder for these idiots to keep having our friends deleted.

Did you have your scary movie night yet?? I wanted to answer but you already resolved that question and I couldn't come up with only one best scary movie.

Nah! Constructive criticism is good with such an option a person will blast all answers that may rightly criticize his/her opinion.

Going by people's propensity of taking offenses at the slightest attempts at humour, this might not exactly work as you propose, plus, it might encourage more ill will than is usually seen on here.
