They did not train to be Homosexuals, however some of their legions were made up of homosexuals.
It was felt that if the person they loved was in grave danger, they would fight harder, and kill more enemys

They were not trained to be homosexual. BUT!
From the History Channel show I saw last week they (boys) were taken from home at the age of 7 and put into military training. They pretty much stayed there until they were ready to join the real military at 18-20 yrs. old. So, being away from home and love at such a young age would bond them, in addition, going through puberty with only boys around would probably turn their thoughts toward males. I don't think it was frowned upon by anyone. I think every one knew it happened and it was accepted. In fact I think it was pretty common to see male as well as female prostitutes around.

Spartans used homosexuality to their advantage in battles. It is even inferred in the "Iliad" by Homer where he speaks of a relationship between Achilles and Patroclus.

spartans were not trained to be gay but at the age of 14 when they were signed up to be in the army they were expected to have sex with there trainer because the men would have been away from from home for such long peiods of time's.
when it came time for the young solider to get married they had to retrained to have sex with there wife who would have had there hair shaved (from there heads) to look more male so that the young solider would find it easier to adjust to sex with his wife.

I don't think they were necessarily trained to be homosexuals, but they were away from women for long periods of time, and homosexual sex wasn't discouraged.

Rough homosexual sex between military trainers and cadets was a way of building physical stamina and emotional strength in preparation for combat with neighbouring Cypus.

Not quite true. homosexuality was not unaccepted, but neither was it something that was pressured upon people.
