I read this story on yahoo and it made me angry in Arlington Texas a memorial service was due to take place for a naval veteran who had served his country in times of war only to have his church cancel the service because they learned that he's gay so what!! Just because he is gay doesn't mean that he doesn't have the right to a memorial service in his honor. He is one of thousands who served his country in the armed forces and is a patriotic hero who deserves a religious memorial service in his church he did his patriotic duty by his country let him have his memorial service.
I think the church that cancelled the service 24 hours before the service was due to begin should rethink and let the service go ahead.

This is a perfect example of why homophobia is a sin. Christ commands us to treat others as we want to be treated. Cancelling a memorial service for a naval veteran who served his country is NOT treating others as anyone would want to be treated. Thus, it violates Christ's commandment and is sinful and immoral.

People are not born homophobic, they choose to be homophobic.

I'm not surprised. I live in H-town...and have lived in TX all my life. It makes sense coming from Texas, especially Arlington.

I can't see that I can get angry at ignorance and hatred. It's a sad situation, but getting angry does solve anything. And...it was a megachurch. These people don't care about other people, just money and power.

It if was a small church...I can almost guarantee that the service would have gone off without a hitch. Small towns in Texas with small churches are actually more open minded and loving than those stupid megachurches.

It's unfortunate that so many people are still so limited and selfish in their thinking that they can't get beyond one trait they may not be keen on to see any of the others that the person has. I feel very sad for the family of this man, and if this church membership doesn't allow a service, I hope another one, with more faith and compassion, steps forward and offers to do it.

This makes me beyond mad, who the hell do those people think they are that they can just crap all over a man who fought to make this country great.
Then they have the nerve to say it was not out of hatred or discrimination but out of principal, bull crap it was all about hate.
If I was this mans family there is no way in hell I would even consider having his memorial service there or in any church affiliated with them.

That's beyond pathetic on the Church's part. It sure strengthens my resistance to Christianity, though.

That is DISGUSTING! Didn't Jesus gather the misfits and outcasts to him. What does it mean to be a Christian if you can't follow His rules?LOVE ONE ANOTHER:
