I don't think war will start but I don't think Russia can claim the North Pole region either. What they want it for is for the oil that is underneath the North Pole. Knowing how belligerent Russia can be I wouldn't rule out a war. But we would not be the ones starting it and I think we would have a lot of allies on this one.

The Russians have done everything correctly, going through the United Nations to do this. The US of course is not a signatory to that group and will complain about it as usual

Probably not HOWEVER there are large amounts of natural resources available (example being the diamond mines in northern Canada) that may lead to border disputes, tension, and political posturing.

there is no real asset to the area just a flex of muscle.

War is more likely to start and expand when the US or Israel strike Iran
