That's the best time to take them. That's what they're for.

Your doctor will tell you what type is the safest for you. There are two types out there (and all the brands fall into these categories). There's POPs (progesterone only pills) and combination pills (Progesterone and estrogen). I was told that POPs are not normally prescribed to younger females without a specific reason (although I may have interupted this wrong). There's a couple different types now. There are ones with 21 active pills and then 7 inactive pills. There are ones with 24 active pills and 4 inactive. This is to have shorter periods. There are also ones with 3 months worth of active pills and 1 week worth of inactive pills. These give you less periods in the year.

Side effects can range from upset stomachs, cramping, blood clots (usually in smokers). When you go to the doctor to get them they can provide a full list.

If you go on the pill take the time to read the booklet that comes with it. It will answer a lot of the questions that you have and it's an excellent source. I"m a worrier so it really helped me.

Yes it is ok for you to take BC pills---ESPECIALLY if you are single and sexually active!!! You don't want to end up with a "surprise" from some casual interlude. You want to make sure that when you are ready for a baby you ARE ready for one, and prevention is the best way to make sure there are NO unwanted pregnancies. Good for you, and it shows that you are responsible in your sexual activity!

Good Luck and Good Job! As far as what kind and such talk with your gyno to see what is the best pill for you to take and what the effects are from that particular pill.
