Hi,
I'm flying, with a friend, to Greece for a week or a week and a half and have some questions:
1. Is it possible to fly directly to islands or you always land in Athens and then go to islands?
2. How do you transfer from one island to another?
3. Any islands that are recommended for people my age (I'm 33). (Some islands are known to be for teenagers, some for families. Neither is my scene).
4. What is a good itinerary for a week or a week and a half? Which islands? Is it recommended to combine Turkey on such a short trip?
5. Are there any floods in Greece or Turkey right now like in several cities in Europe?

Thanks.

1) You can land on any island with an airport, in the summer you can fly direct, in the Winter you usually have to change in Athens, but you are talking about the Summer anyway.
2) Take a flight, or a ferry. There is always info on that on each island. Either ask a local, or ask the local travel agency or ferry ticket office once you are there. If you google ferries Greece. You can easily find info on inter island ferry travel. Or look on www.aegeanair.com for info on flights between the islands.
3) Symi! You can fly into Rhodes and then Symi is a 45min-1hr ferry ride from the harbour. Beautiful island, has nightclubs, and boussouki, gorgeous beaches and we have festivals right now. Turkey is a 30 minute ferry ride from here, leaving for day trips twice a week I think. And if you really dont like Symi (which I really cant believe) go back to Rhodes and do the crazy clubbing scene.... or visit the old town they have there which is really worth a visit.
5) No floods here! :) There are fires in north Greece on the mainland though. Turkey, I dont know

1. You can fly directly to some very touristic islands, like Rhodes, Kos or Myconos. For the rest you must land on Athens, which is good, because it is a good idea to spend 2-3 days in Athens to see the monuments.
2. You can fly rom Athens to some islands, or you can take the ferry to the islands from Athens' port, Piraeus. Islands bewteen them are connected by ferry, but not all of them (there are groups that are on the same ferry line). Islands which are on different ferry lines are connected once or twice a week, and sometimes with very slow ferries. So you must check out the schedules well: www.greekferries.gr
3. Most islands are fine for your age as for other ages, you have the choice to avoid the areas where teenagers go clubbing or where families go with their children to play. I think you may enjoy Paros and Santorini, especially if you stay at Naoussa, not Parikia, and Oia, not Fira, respectively. Also Sifnos+Milos are a combination you will never regret, trust me. Just don't stay in the port in those two islands. Syros and Myconos are also a nice combination, but if you go to Myconos you'd better go there after August 20 and avoid some very loud clubs and beaches. There are quiet spots too. You can also visit Delos from there, the ancient sacred island with a great archaeological site.
4. You could combine Turkey only if you decide to go to Rhodos, Kos or Chios. Not if you go to the Cyclades (which are closer to Athens). If however you decide to go to Rhodes, Kos, or Chios, I strobgly suggest you fly there, or you will be spending your trvel on a ferry.
5. No floods, no rain, and the major heat has passed. The weather will be perfect for you, it seems. Just don't forget sun cream, sun glasses and a hat. The weather looks enjoyable, but the sun is really strong.

1) you will hae to land in Athens, and take another plane from there for the islands, or go with a ferry.
2) transferring from one island to another, with ferries, and you can get your tickets from the island that you're visiting.
3)all islands are for all age groups, but I can suggest some very nice islands, corfu, zakynthos, rhodes, crete.
4) I don't think combining turkey would be a good idea for such a short trip, and if you go to the Kyklades islands, you can fit in about 2 only, otherwise you wont see much, and for any other islands, I suggest only one island, so you can enjoy it and not be on a ferry all the time.
5) no we have no floods.
