It's a piece of cake but you do need to know where things are.
Under the transmission casing there is a drain plug place a container under it and remove the plug taking the transmission fluid dip stick out first. when all the fluid is out replace the plug, make sure it's tight. Using Dextron 2 auto
transmission fluid, pour it into the same hole that the dip stick came from checking the level with the dip stick, don't over fill.
Why do you feel that the trans fluid needs to be changed?
It will only need to be changed if it is discoloured and smells burnt. Otherwise just top up to the correct level.
As this job involves working under the car always use axle stands, never work under a car on a jack!

hi jojo, a Friend of mine has a civic esi auto model, he needed the auto fluid changing a few weeks ago he got the fluid out of the car but could not put the new lot in as there is no hole only the dipstick one so as you can imagine there was fluid all over his drive, he later found out that the garage would have only charged him £40 to do the job for him in an hour it took him 3 hours to complete the job and 4 bottles of fluid cause of the spillage which cost him £6.99 each and then he had to buy some driveway cleaner to that cost £12.99 so best advice is to take the car to a garage and let them do it for you unless you want the hassle of all that??. hope this helps you decide on what to do James.

JO JO In order to change all the fluid mechanics use a device that hooks up to the auto trans cooler hose and 12 quarts of fluid are flushed thru the entire trans. Please just this time allow the Dealer or good oil change shop to flush out the automatic trans.

Why do you feel you need to. I assume when you say transmission fluid, that the vehicle is an automatic. I have never changed `auto` fluid and have had autos for years.

My wife has a 99' Civic EX and if your going to change fluid, take it to dealership and they can clean the screen in the pan also. No offense but this job isn't really one you want to tackle.
