Most likely they find the Taiwanese a hospitable, helpful and polite people similar to the Japanese people and can relate to them.

Then there is those Japanese who did not like Taiwan at all as per one of your previous post about the Old folks moving into A Village in Nantou.

Strong inter-relationships between the two. As I said before, each country knows (or is learning a lot) about defending and developing its unique culture against global forces. They have more in common currently than differences. Both are island nations, both are industrialized, basically democratic or at least attempting to appear so credibly, modern nations that exist nearby each other. And mostly Taiwan can offer decent quality at a good price and is convenient to travel to for Japanese.

There are several reasons:

A. Taiwan is relatively close to Japan. It only take less than one hour flight to Okinawa or three hour flight to Tokyo.

B. During world war II, Japan colonize many of it's Asian neighbors. Strangely Taiwanese animosity towards the Japanese is relatively low compare to the other Asian neighbors (China, Korea, Philippine, etc.)

C. Many Taiwanese can speak Japanese. During the Japanese colonization, the older generation (60 and above) are educated in Japanese. Many of the younger generation choose Japanese as their third or fourth language to study in school. (Chinese- Official Language, English- Second Language, Native Tong- Taiwanese, Hakka etc.)

D. Taiwanese cost of living (shopping) is relatively cheap compare to Japan. They can travel or buy duty free(no tax or refund the VAT at the airport).
