It's a"Guilt by association" situation.
Yes you are right there are a lot of people in a lot of different political spectrum that dislike Bush. However it is the Far Left that is the most vocal about it. They are the ones you see publicly attacking, insulting and mocking the President. So it becomes a matter of seeing one thing and simply applying it to everything that is similar. In other words stereotyping.
The same goes for the opposite, I am sure you will find democrats who do not "hate" Bush, and I am sure if you look hard enough you will find a few that actually approve of Bush.
Why do people assume if you support Bush you have to be a rich White guy or a dumb redneck uber christian? I know I am not. I'm a middle class Hispanic, non-practicing Catholic, born and raised near Liberal havens like San Fran and Berkley and I have a degree in Hospitality management. But because I don't go Rabid at the sound of his name I am often lumped with people I have no real connection to.
It is unfortunate we can not just have an intelligent debate and not have to deal with the "Stereotypes" or the "haters" on either side of the isle.

Its the inability of many people to see that not every issue is completely black and white. For example, I consider myself a "Liberal Left" but that doesn't mean I supported Kerry. As for this election, I'll see who the candidate becomes.
But really, I have found that with so many people, everything has to be "yes!" or "no!" with politics. People who are able to form complete "yes!" or "no!" answers to political questions (in many cases, not all) usually don't look very far into the subject matter.

Because I have not met every single person on the left or right. The overwhelming majority of people that hate Bush are on the left. Since I have not met your friend I would assume that he was a liberal; that would be the norm for someone who hated the President.
I disagree with th President on spending and he lost me on border security but as Reagan said someone who is your friend 70% of the time is not your enemy

The far right has been under attack now for over a year and they are losing their war badly. Not only that but their worst nightmare is leading in the polls (Clinton) and they all know that she want REVENGE.
The hard core righties will fight with whatever they can at this point because they have everything to lose.

Nah...I'm not left wing and I'll bash Bush's policies and positions all day long!
I identify someone as a Lefty or Righty if they can't handle critical thinking. Then left or right doesn't really matter because they can't understand anyway.

Because only lefties hate!
intelligence check: 70 % wouldn't be Democrat then because a greater percent are unhappy with the Democratic Congress than they are with the President. Funny how you only look at one set of polls!

Cos many people are as thick as two short planks - they really have been sucked into believing that 'if you aren't with us you're against us' thingy.
Because they're outa touch with reality they only believe there are Black and White views; wrong and right.
They can't understand that the real world has many colours between Black and White.

because the vast majority of people who do, share the same myopic jaded view of defending this country as the pelosi/reid regime. its total liberal pap and i strongly suspect your friend is the same. the idea that a sober sane individual would respect the cowardice of harry reid to abandon our soliders and the freedom of this country in iraq is sad truly sad and the idea of blaming it on bush when the reality is its a liberal philosophy weakness is even sadder.

I don't assume anything. My mom is a moderate/conservative Republican, but recently she disagrees with Bush's policies on war.

70% of the nation would be Democrat if that was the case. How do people not realize that is a ridiculous statement.
