Just a little help , if you have a 29gal that has been up and runing for awhile that is in good shape you can cut a small peace of the filter pad and put it in your new 10gal to seed the filter.
this will speed up your cycle.

How great are your goldfish? I also have a million goldfish in a 30 gal. i offered a 30 gal, because of the fact I initially had 2, however the different died because of the fact the tank became to small. Goldfish honestly do require 20 gal for the 1st fish and one extra 10 consistent with fish. i would not flow any smaller than a fifty 5-60 gal tank. it extremely is stable for the fish. to no longer point out that goldfish, no remember what type get extremely extremely great. between 6-12 inches. Commets can get even better. I even have considered one that is sixteen inches. in case you could no longer have the money for a tank that huge i could advise preserving only a million goldfish in the ten gallon, a minimum of till you will get a 20. A wholesome goldfish will stay 12-25 years depending on circumstances. wish this helps.

I would let your tank fully cycle first without the use of fish. There are ways to do a fishless cycle such as adding ammonia to the tank to make it spike without having to risk the lives of any fish. It is the most humane way to go about this process. You can instead add some fish food to the tank that will proceed to rot and create ammonia, nitrites, and finally nitrates. When your ammonia and nitrites are at zero and you have some nitrates, then you are ready to add fish. This can take a few weeks.
There are many smaller fish that would do well in a ten in the right combinations and amounts such as many varieties of tetras such as cardinals, neons, head and tail lights and more, as long as they don't exceed 2 in at full growth. Others may include cory catfish, white cloud minnows, guppies, platties, molies, barbs, a betta if not kept with fin nippers or other bettas unless female which can be kept with other females, I would only do 2 for a ten gal though. I would only pick fish that do not exceed 2.5 inches or so that are compatible with any others you pick. A smaller school of tetras with a cory might be nice for example.
You can find out more useful information in the link that is provided in my profile. This site will also tell more about the fishless cycling process.
I enourage you to be patient with the cycling process and to not rush into buying fish right away because you may find yourself sorry that you did.
Oh and you mentioned that you had a 30 gal? If so, use your biofilter media or some substrate from that tank in the ten to help establish the neccessary bacteria colonies that will break down nitrates quickly and efficiently, cutting down your cycling time drasticaly.
Enjoy your new tank. :)

First you should do a fishless cycle. Here's a link to instructions on fishless cycling: http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/misc/fishlesscycling.html
When the tank/filter are cycled then you can add in fish. I'm pretty partial to livebearers, but you'd either need another aquarium to raise the babies in, or just get all males. Cories are a must, though! They are the cutest little catfish on the planet! And ottos. They will work hard to keep your tank clean and provide loads of entertainment while they do it. Get a group of 3 cories, 3 ottos, and maybe 4 or 5 male guppies and that would be an awesome tank :)

A betta would be very happy in a ten gallon tank. He could also have some well selected friends. I had mine in with 4 harlequin rasboras. They got along splendidly. You do have to be cautious with what type of fish you put in with a betta. For instance, avoid long finned fish and fish that tend to nip the fins of other fish. YOu could also get a nice looking snail to help with the clean up in your tank. Or you could get a few african dwarf frogs. They are really cute little critters.

After you have cycled the tank (Nutrafin Cycle is great for this)
I think you should start of adding zebra danios
Maybe, add 5 then wait a week. If they are ok add another 5
Start with danios as they are very hardy fish
After this then just add a few tetras, most people say neons but i like a mixture of different ones together :)

I would get 6 or 8 neon tetras. they wont mess up the tank too much and are pretty and colourful, don't over crowd your tank though otherwise you will get ammonia problems and dead fish!!

none
unless you want to cycle your tank with fish then you could get yourself a couple of zebra danios, they are very hardy
here is a link
http://www.firsttankguide.net/cycle.php
Even after the cycling is done, you should never introduce more then 5 fish at a time, with at least a week apart
Hope that helps
Good luck
