Yup I saw the whole thing. It happened shortly after midnight. I was visiting my parents in Soulsbyville and I went out to the car to get some stuff when the whole sky lit up. I looked and it was a brillant fireball streaking across the sky with green flames spewing out the back of it. At first I thought it was a firework or maybe a flare but it didn't look or behave like anything I had ever seen. It looked really close and I saw it for a good 4-5 seconds before it disappeared behind a house. My wife saw the light and the flashing but no one else saw the object but me. It was incredible! I thougth it might have been a UFO. About 2 minutes later a gigantic explosion happened that shook the ground and rattled all the houses. All most like an earthquake. It was so violent that the neighbours rushed outside thinking someone was jumping up and down on their roof.

we live in three rivers. and our power started going on and off and on and off over and over at exactly midnight. we went outside and saw that all the neighbors had lost power. Then the sky lit up for a few seconds like heat lightning. we have been trying to find out what this was all day. amazing in this "information" age how hard it is to find out about the stuff you really want to find out about! not a peep on tv. nothing on the net but the occassional eye witness.

Yes, I saw it too. I reported it to the American Meteor Society, at amsmeteors.org. They have a detailed list of what information to include. I hope that they can get enough info on it to actually report it in the local news. It was so amazing to have witnessed such a great event. I am hoping more will happen tonight.

I am a little far away now, but it could have been us as we bounced off the atmosphere, en route home to Mars, from a solar orbit.
The pilot was a bit sun blinded or his brain was at 1/2 mast.

Where is Sorona? Did you mean Corona? If so, perhaps it was from the military base in 29 Palms and they exploded an atomic bomb to test the Marines' endurance to nuclear radiation. ;)

Were having a meteor shower.
A large enough one light up the sky and broke the sound barrier before burning up.
That was a good one.

Yeah I heard it. It freaked me out. What was it? I talked to someone that saw a bright light in the sky so bright they couldn't look at it and then a minute later a loud bang.
