usually the rated tow capacity of a car/truck/suv is referring to the bumper ball hitch and the tranny. have frame mounted receiver installed with a permanent ball. if you have a manual transmission, have a heavy duty clutch plate and pressure plate installed. if you have an automatic tranny, have an oil cooler installed and if it already has one then a higher capacity cooler could be installed. if you're going to do alot of towing (camping or whatever) you might consider a larger capacity radiator for the engine.

The biggest problem with towing more is that you eventually will lift the front wheels off the ground and won't be able to steer - that's an extreme example - but the principal is the limiting factor.

When that happens you end up with a jack knife condition. I've seen many a small jeep trying to tow a big boat involved in a huge wreck.

If you are just trying to move something at low speeds - increased axle ratios (fuel economy will suffer), and heavier springs, along with frame mounted hitches.

Like most things in life, nothing is free. If you really need to move large loads, you need a fifth wheel in a pickup truck to move the most - very similar to the Class 8 trucks you see on the road which work day in, day out, safely moving heavy loads.

A shorter rear gear will help the tow capacity, but will also hurt mileage and my mess up the computer (turning too many rpms for a given speed). I'm not sure if OBDII applies to trucks - you may want to check this. You should also add an additional transmission cooler - heat kills transmissions. The tongue weight may not change much, so stronger springs are probably not necessary, unless you're already sagging.

Try a different car, or you can go to one of those companies that modifies your car and get more torque. Not sure about the cost, depends what country you are in. Ask them at Jeep if they can send it to be modified.

Increase horse power, install high torque transmission, increase suspension, and Increase gear ratio in rear and front trans-axle.
