Because Republicans cannot stand it when a Democrat does a good job.
That is the same reason that Bill Clinton received so much harassment from the Republicans during his Presidency.
Bill Clinton developed the longest period of a good economy that we have had in our nation's history.
Remember how wonderful that was?
Then George Bush trashed the wonderful economy that Bill Clinton handed him.

FDR was far from perfect, just like all presidents, he was only human.
He did enact some radical (in the sense of "different from what had been done before) and that always scares conservtives.
But he was the right man for the job at the time, at least the American people thought so because he was elected 4 times.
He might have been a lousy president for the 1980s, just like Reagan would have been a disaster in the 1930s. Lincoln might have been a mediocre president if he had served at any other time, but he was exactly the president the nation needed during the Civil War. In politics, timing is everything.

The depression persisted through seven years of FDR's presidency. Normal presidents quit after that. He ignored the two-term precedent and took us to war on every populated continent on earth (ok, he just bribed S. America).
He signed an executive order seizing the nation's gold, and he threatened to create five new supreme court positions because the court ruled Social Security unconstitutional. If he couldn't have his way, he would have made it a fourteen person court and picked five friends for the new jobs.
Let's see, he, like Lincoln, ignored Habeas Corpus and imprisoned a bunch of legal residents with no due process.
He was the first one to really start taxing the middle class and poor - before him the tax was limited to millionaires and by the time he died taxes were up to 90% of GDP with another 50% in deficit spending. You say the war, but it didn't come down until _JFK_ some twenty years later!
Its OK - he was the first mainstream media president with his radio 'fireside chats.' He spoke a great game, always optimistic and talking about freedom...Whatever that meant to him, I'm unsure. He was elected and served longer than any other president, right up until his death. He defines the 'imperial presidency' and I laugh at people who think Bush is dictatorial and imperialist in his style. Bush is a wanna-be.

Well Reagan led us out of a depression that Jimmy Carter help make worse. Iran-Contra wasn't that big of a deal anyway.
I have not heard many 'bashing' FDR and mostly he seems pretty well respected as a President. He did however give us Social Security, which does not appear to be such a good idea in the larger economic picture. And he moved us closer to many of the welfare programs that we are stuck with.
In the short run, his programs helped us a great deal, but it would have been better if they were short term solutions.
Just one man's opinion.

FDR was a President who was lucky enough to have WW 2 occur during his presidency so that the Great Depression would end. Better to be lucky than good.
His other noble accomplishment was giving half of the world over to the USSR. Despite the leftwngers love for them they did kill at least 20 million people, making Hitler look like a swell guy.
I will say this for the man; he was the last leftist who believed in national security.
Little Timmie, FDR was a Democrat you idiot!!!!!!!!!!!

Reagan led us to an economic disaster and FDR didn't?
Perhaps you're unaware that no president increased national debt and government spending faster than FDR ( even excluding WW2 ), while at the same time he MASSIVELY increased taxation.
WW2 helped mask his failed economic policies, but we're still dealing with the relics his horrible decisions have left us.

The only reason to "bash" FDR is for the genie he let out of the bottle called social security. While good in its intentions, it has set up from the word go an additional stream of income that the government will never be able to keep its hands off of. That is why it is eventually going to dry up if unchecked...leaving millions of older Americans madder than hell and twisting in the wind.
