I adopted him from the pound a year ago and they said he was chihuahua/shiba inu mix but he weighs over 15 lbs. and that seems big for a chihuahua. He has a curly tail and a wrinkly forehead and he makes weird sounds and hardly ever barks like a Basenji so now I'm not sure what he is! Here are some pictures:

Hey, that's a good guess. Chi/Shiba. Looks just like a Shiba but with the softness that a Chi could give it. All the Shibas I've ever met have never made a sound and while AKC standards require a Chi to be 6lbs or less, most Chis I've seen don't adhere to the standard. Chihuahuas can range from 2 to 20 pounds. My dog is 5 and most people say "Wow, I've never seen a Chihuahua that small before". That is a testiment to me that there are some pretty big Chihuahuas running around out there. I've seen plenty of them.

Nice looking dog, BTW.

Aw, he's very cute!

I think the face definately looks like a chihuahua. The shiba inu is pretty believable too, from the color. That would also be the curly tail, and why he's so much bigger than a chihuahua.

What a cutie! My guess would be that he is a Chi mix. Maybe mixed with some type of terrier or some other smaller breed. Chi's can get to be up to 10-15 lbs. Does the tail curl like the Basenji? He may be mixed with that..since he doesn't bark much...since all the Chi's I have had LOVED to bark at everything:)
Either way, he is very cute and you are lucky to have found a smaller breed dog that doesn't bark alot.

Looks like they got it right to me.. Shiba Inu's are bigger than Chihuahua's and aren't known to be big barkers..

He has a chihuahua face - I beleive them. You can mix a toy poodle & a golden retriever (turns out around 25 lbs - 35 lbs) - a goldendoodle.
