Could you possibly set up a pre-meeting with the families that call ? If they want a babysitter say for Friday night for example..you and either your mom or dad could go with you to meet the family before then. That way, you and your folks can see where you will be at, meet the kids before hand and learn about the family a bit before. I know, as a parent, I would have a good impression of that person who cared enough to come first to see if you and the kids were compatible even. It shows responsibility and sensibility too on your part. Its a sad fact that some homes....just are not safe places and to go without knowing a family would be scary. I think having an adult that you trust...to "check out the family too"... would make you all feel better.Good luck

it dosen't sound safe. When i was 14 i would babysit for families that I met at church. Or even for my parents friends. Ask but not with flyers. with all the pedafiles and stuff i say no.

it is dangerous, but it also can be safe. its a 50-50 chance. it all depends on if u r willing to take that chance and risk it. for me, i perfer to know the people just so i know that its safe, but everyone is different. if u want to play it safe, then i would babysit only the people u know and try doing small everyday chores for people, too. and u can also ask ur friends about people that live near by that they know.

Have a parent bring you the first time you babysit so they can get a feel for the family. And you are not being paranoid, you are trying to protect yourself! Good for you!

many people are desperate for baby sitters so u could ask them to drop their kids to ur place instead of u going if u don't feel so good about it
