it doesn't necessarily mean physically stronger, it means mentally. i love that quote!!! here's a personal example. i was over in the middle east one summer, and a war broke out. bombs dropped literally outside of our house!!! but somehow, i got out. that didn't kill me, but has made me stronger emotionally. i now have a stronger perspective on things!!!

The person who came up with that quote left half of the sentence out. The rest goes: "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, handicapped, or a vegetable." Ultimately tho what the quote is trying to convey is that we learn from our experiences and grow stronger from them.

that is not what the saying means. What it means is that hardships in life help you develop inner strength. If you broke both your legs, you would learn to deal with how to live using a wheelchair, for example. That hardship would give you an appreciation for having your legs back and a greater sympathy for those who have to be in a wheelchair without the hope of ever walking....see what I mean?

Well, the broken spots, once healed, are actually stronger than the non broken bones. Truth!

But Nietzche was really talking about experiences, and how the character is affect, not the physical, as I expect you know.

I learned to exist in the environment of drugs, alcohol, fist fights and sexual abuse by telling myself that it wouldn't always be that way - that I would someday have a family and a life of my own.

In the foyer of her home, she had a huge statue of Buddha on a table and around the neck of the Buddha was this same panther pendant on the gold chain. She said she had manifested out of the ethers and that it was meant for him and that he should take it and wear it. He told me that the panther had great meaning; that the panther has the capability of acclimatizing itself or adapting itself to any situation he finds itself in. It stood for harmony and balance.

i wouldn't take the saying too literally. its more like when facing a situation that is really hard on you, ie problems in your personal life, getting through it only makes you a stronger more enduring person, because it takes alot from a person to really fight through whatever is going on.
