His name is Dumbledore-Donut and he is our favourite fish ever. He lives with 3 African Cichlids two Plecos and an albino cory in a 30 gal tank. Don't worry, I am switching him to a larger tank when he comes of age/size. We have never had a fish that more closely resembles a shark than this. We really want to make sure we do the right thing because, more than a dog or a cat, we care about this him.

RTC s will get massive and being i beleive the third or fourth largest FW fish.

They are very easy to care for which is part of the problem. But they are like a dog, they will eat anything. RTCs will love raw shrimp.

But pellets are fine.

If your looking for feeding plan, you cant go wrong with a staple food like pellets. Once a week a treat with raw shrimps will be good for him.

But dont worry, they are very forgiving and he will get over 5 feet in no time.

Edit: after re-reading, do you have a red tailed shark? or a red tail catfish, there is a huge difference. When you said shark like that got me thinking if you have a red tailed shark. please feel free to email me, or please update your question with the fish to reconferm.

I have a 3" Red Tail Catfish, when can I hand-feed him and what do I feed him after pellets?

Good luck to you, pal!

Red tail Catfish are quite a giant! They are also predator! They can eat/swallow any smaller fishes/prawn/crabs, in fact, anything that can fit into their mouth!

Their growth rate are also surprising fast! After pellet? Maybe you can switch to small feeder-fishes and shrimp alreday. Of course, your feeder fishes will have to be bigger as times goes by...

Good Luck!! They are certainly one of the more beautiful Fishes to own!!

as bettachris said these fish get massive and stunted it is near impossible, they grow a definite 3ft and can get bigger, there minimum tank size should be 500g 96x36x36 dimensions.

There food is the last thing to worry about as they will eat anything they can fit into there mouth.

at three inches you should be able to feed him larger krill and silversides....he should be able to eat half his body length for food and are awesome at picking up on floating food....i had one and it doubled in size after a month....feed them sparingly(every second or third day feed a silverside or two or a couple of krill) the rest of the time you can feed pellets but the fish will really get him growing. its a really awesome fish but they do get to around 200kg/350lbs and eat ANYTHING that get close to their mouths.
