He grew up with a dim view of the media from listening to his father complain about it all the time. As a result Barry doesn't trust anyone in the media and his bias view has led, not surprisingly, to a life-long disrespect for them and what they do. Barry doomed the relationship from the start.

Another aspect is Barry's real personality. He's never been a team player. Even in college at ASU his own teammates, when asked by the manager, tried to vote him off the squad. In the pros, he quickly earned a bad rep as a whiner, self-centered, arrogant and generally surly... just like his father. What other guy is gonna want to hang around with him?

Then he coveted the attention other ball players were getting and decided to use drugs to turn himself into a HR hitter. So add in the steroids. He becomes an even better hitter and boosts his power. Hits most HR in a season and career. He tells the manager when he plays and when he doesn't. This makes the situation worse. Inflating his ego and minimizing the contributions of his teammates. His team isn't even trying to win ball games any more.

Barry knows, deep down, he used steroids and doesn't feel good about himself. He ignores everything negative and hears only the applause. He doesn't deal with reality in a meaningful way. When the pressure is on and he needs to reach deep down to grab hold of himself, there's only the heart of a hater and a cheat. That's why he chokes ... why he has always choked under pressure. His post-season numbers are terrible. He batted about .140 during the last month of the HR chase and now that the pressure is off he is hitting again. He has never won a world series ring and his chances are not good because it takes a team and other star players are not willing to be on the same club with him.

I know you specifically asked what he "did wrong recently" and the honest answer is that every day with Bonds is a bad day. It is tragic since the guy had some God-given talent, and chose to go through life bitter and angry. Then made it worse by taking drugs. You've probably heard a thousand times how our lives are shaped by the choices we make. It's true.

Here are Bonds' numbers before, during and after steroids.
1986-1997 BA = .288, 31 HR, 104 BB, 35 SB (per season)
1998-2004 BA = .324, 52 HR, 154 BB, 13 SB
2004-now BA = .274, 29 HR, 132 BB, 4 SB

The reason Barry gets walked so often is not that pitchers fear him, it is because it makes sense to pitch around him since his teammates are not good enough to score him from first base.

Given that the lawyer who leaked the grand jury testimony transcripts, Troy Ellerman, has been sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison (pled guilty to four counts of obstruction of justice), has surrendered his California law license, and lost a side job (commissioner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association -- never even knew such a thing existed)), I think the veracity of the testimony is established.

If it were fake, there'd have been nothing on which to convict him, and no, this isn't some sort of elaborate cover-up with Ellerman acting as fall guy.

He hit a home run.

People assume he cheated even though there is no proof other than leaked grand jury testimony. We don't even know if that's true either since it was "leaked"!

I think he took something but I am not one of those people who want to fry him for it. I saw the kind of player he was in his prime. A record is just a record. That record Bonds broke did not define Hank Aaron. Aaron did a lot more than just hit home runs just like Bonds did a lot more than just hit home runs.

One good thing that came out of all of this is that Henry Aaron finally got the respect he deserved back when he broke the record. People want to dwell on the negative but that's clearly one positive out of all of this.

And the media thing is portrayed by the media. If they weren't such jerkoffs he wouldn't be a jerk. Many people who have met Barry off camera say he is a really nice guy. The media has **** all over him and his family all of his life that I don't blame Barry one bit. I blame them for the so-called monster they created.

Bonds didnt need steroids to lead the league in AB/Homeruns at age 43. He's also #6 in SLG, #1 in OPS, and #1 in OBP.

he broke Hank Aaron's record, which is the best record in baseball. THe rub is the guy was on steroids and everyone will know a lot about how he lied and cheated his way through the breaking of the record about three years from now. Just watch, three years from now we will know it all about Barry Bonds cheating ***.

He hasn't ever been proven to do steroids. If the media has been on your case non-stop accusing you of something you haven't been proven of doing I don't think you'd be too nice to them either. They ALWAYS ask questions about steroids. It's getting old.

He broke Bud Selig's buddy Hank Aaron's record. Thats why he's been trying to pen Barry and pretty much nobody else for steroids since the investigation began.

Yeah to the media, they always ask him reasonable questions, like "Was it hard for you to hit these homeruns lately?" and he's like Why are you asking me these questions? and **** like that
