Despite their fearsome reputation, mantids aren't actually that aggressive toward people. I have had several native species as pets (Mantis religiosa) and have never been bitten by one, although they have tried. Temperament varies from one individual to the next, most when handled will simply accept it and try to fly when the opportunity arises. Then there are the ones that use their powerful grasping forelegs to deliver a nice pinch when handled. As far as biting goes, yes they are able to bite, their mandibles are large enough to deliver a well placed bite, however most do not, some of the ones I have kept have tried but i usually managed to escape their gaping mouths.

Hope this helps!

Well I've actually seen praying mantises and seriously they don't bite, its more like pinch. Cause of their huge pincher or claws they mostly fight with thoughs (when it comes to mating or other occasions). Oh and just to let you know the females are why larger than the males. Also that the pray mantis likes to climb and wait for the right moments.

Praying mantises bite and eat their mates (the female eats the male after, and sometimes during, mating).
But, do they bite humans? Not that I have experienced.
Also, believe it or not, these creatures are legally protected and the killing of them would bring you a hefty fine, so I'd say, stay away, watch them from afar, you won't incur any fines, and you won't have to worry about being bitten.

Most animals have jaws and can bite. So the answer is yes, however if the praying mantis is biting you it wont hurt since the jaws are so small HOWEVER Praying Mantises can and WILL spit!

The big ones round here can inflict a nasty injury with their spiked arms. These spikes are used for holding prey firmly and are certainly strong and long enough on a 10cm mantis to draw blood.

You would probably have to molest or handle them roughly to make them bite. I have never seen one bite a person but I think they could bite you pretty hard if you let it.
