I believe in the balance of karma or the punishment/rewards system of the universe. Call it universal or spiritual manifestation, the laws are still applied in most cases.
Revenge is necessary in certain cases. If we're talking about a case of humiliation or sufferance that directly affects the individual's confidence and viewpoint or state of mind, revenge could induce a sense of superiority that would take them out of their state. Or if we're referring to a case that troubles an individual, revenge would offer a sense of closure.
As for it being evil... Well, if revenge is evil, then how do you call the action that determined the individual to seek revenge in the first place? The way I see it, revenge is merely the act of equilibrating the direction of negative forces. The only problem is that sometimes revenge seeks to dig deeper than necessary. Its purpose is to give more pain than it experienced.

Revenge is NOT evil and I would say ABSOLUTELY necessary in many cases. This is one of the flaws of modern society.
People in today's world, at least in what we tend to think of as the 'modern civilizes world', lack proper fear. Especially in the U.S.A. people run their mouths, make base accusations, talk down to people and make fun of others with no fear of any retaliation. Man beat their wives and the wives family does nothing because if they personally interfere and things turn top blows they could go to jail. If someone steels from you and you try and retaliate, this can lead to jail. If you are physically threatened, you are expect to cry to the police, who ultimately will do very little. If the person persists with their threats, you are expected to get a layer, spend money you don’t have and try and litigate the person into submission. That's great if you have the money to do it...and the guy don’t just take a baseball bat to your head or a gun to your chest. There is no fear and without fear, there is no protection.
As for revenge, if people were afraid of vengeance, then they would thing twice about what they were doing. If a man was afraid that his girlfriends brother might break his legs for hitting her, he might not hit his girlfriend. If a woman was worried that her husband might leaver her with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is she cheated on him, she might not cheat. If a man was afraid of what his victim or their families might do to him, he might not rape, mug or beat another person.
What I find funny is that here in the U.S.A. the general consensus is that revenge is wrong. The law even states this. Retaliation is unacceptable, leave it to the authorities. Yet, as soon as the U.S. got hit by terrorists on 9/11, the U.S. was out for blood and demolished the middle east. 6 years later, we are still their. Even though the world court, the Global Authority, told us not to do anything right away. What did bush say? Something about not recognizing the world courts authority? Hmmm... Maybe we shouldn’t accept the Justice Departments authority is they aren't helping matters any. After all, crime keeps going up, but look on the bright side, the law is really cracking down on seatbelt violations. After all, traffic fines are more important then criminal investigations, that's why there are more traffic cops then detectives, even if high crime areas. Think about it!
I hope this helps.

I believe that revenge is a possible consequence, and if that consequence occasionally deters people from harming eachother, then it's necessary. Revenge comes in many shapes, from the ever popular all-consuming homicidal rage, colder and more calculated schemes, all the way down simple withholding of courtesy. Revenge any retaliation against a perceived wrong. Maybe someone harms your child, so you hunt them down; or maybe the homeless guy called you a ***** while asking for change, so you keep your dollar. It's not always all that dramatic.

It depends upon whether the action is revenge, or justice. If revenge, just getting even, then it will possibly be damaging to the person performing the act; if it is justice, for example a murderer convicted in a court, then the person wanting revenge might be happy about it, but it would be justice.
I have never understood it when families of murdered people go to court for the trial and get interviewed and carry on, but I guess it helps them. To me, that is more revenge than justice. I know that if someone I loved was ever a victim of a crime (I am madly knocking on wood to not tempt fate.) I wouldn't go to the trial, or even care much it they caught the person. It wouldn't restore my loved one.

Neither.
Revenge is the state when one is consumed by their emotions at the perceived wrongdoing of another. Revenge is a consequence of beliefs in fairness. They go hand in hand.
Revenge typically escalates, each side viewing themselves as being victimized and then becoming the aggressor.
People who seek revenge should be pitied. It's a terrible state of existence and a shame to witness in another.
Revenge is a choice. What course of action will you choose? Do you choose to have others seek revenge against you for your wrongdoings in the world (and under their perceptions of right and wrong)?

The best source of revenge is to live well.
I'm a big believer in what goes around comes around - karma will service justice.
To live well is the knowledge within oneself and the success you feel in achieving this.

Revenge is evil. Revenge often hurts innocent people and breaks the law, just to get back at one person. For example, if somebody killed a loved one of yours, it wouldn't be right to take revenge and kill someone they love. You'd be killing and involving someone innocent, when you could've just reported everything and gotten the murderer put away for life. We like revenge because it satisfies us to hurt the person who hurt us, and know that they are experiencing what you experienced. But it's not right.

Depends on how much you want to waste your life.
There are two things about revenge that the weapons salesmen won't tell you.
1) The idea is based on blaming others for your problems. That traps you in endless reaction to events and seeking to patch the past. You never get on a road determined by you, because you have given the power over your life decisions to the "them " or the, "him/her."
2) After you have spent your resources on revenge you will have wound up compounding a crime. You will never come to examine what it is that made you susceptible to their crime.
