YOU Asked,

Sure you do... What's next? Most blacks are actually Republicans?

jerome,

Know your history. The Radical Republicans of the northeast were LIBERALS, not conservatives. Those state rights Democrats were CONSERVATIVES.

Open you eyes. Today the yankee northeast votes Democrat and the South votes Repubican. This started to happen with the election of 1964. Can you figure out why?

The Civil War was about slavery (states rights to secede and so on - but essentially, it was about slavery).
In a nut shell, the states that wanted to keep slavery seceded from the Union and adopted the Confederate flag - the states that wanted to abolish slavery retained the stars and stripes - I think you summed up the meaning of this symbol in your initial question.

"Black Republicans

From 1854, when the Republican Party was founded, Democrats labeled it adherents "black" Republicans to identify them as proponents of black equality. During the 1860 elections Southern Democrats used the term derisively to press their belief that Abraham Lincoln's victory would incite slave rebellions in the South and lead to widespread miscegenation. The image the term conveyed became more hated in the South during Reconstruction as Radical Republicans forced legislation repugnant to Southerners and installed Northern Republicans or Unionists in the governments of the former Confederate states.

If you talk about a historical relic, please know your history... the confederate flag is a symbol for the "rights of the south."

I think it depends on where you go. If you go into northern states then they'll say it's a symbol of racism, if you go into the southern states then they'll say it's a symbol of culture and pride.

Since the flag itself is for the south then I think we should just take the souths word for it and stop playing games. There are far more urgent matters.

It is the last vestige of racism and slavery. A mark of sedition if there ever was one. Those who see it as a symbol of freedom have no idea what freedom is

Yes to your opening question. The traitors to this country tried to overthrow the US government and are proud of their treason. It was a Confederate sympathizer that killed the president of the USA, Abraham Lincoln, Republican.

Republicans died to stop their coup and succeeded. Now neo-Republicans embrace the very flag that True Republicans gave their lives to defeat.

Confederate traitors should either be locked up or deported before they attempt another coup. Maybe they can start their own "Jones Town".
