Or do you feel it takes away from the movie. The ending is the most important part a story so what do you think of it being changed? Share your thoughts!

If there ever is an Alternative Ending option i never look at it. Only because i guess the tendency that i want to see the ORI*GINAL script and plot for what they naturally made it for. Plus it changes morale, it is the most important piece just as the climax and start. I guess sometimes if you HATED the end alt. endings are OK but i personally dont bother watchin em'

When the ending is slightly altered to make it more interesting or detailed, I see it as a nice artistic touch. Little things, like Lucy seeing Aslan leave and grieving at the end of the Chronicles of Narnia (although in the book, no one noticed him slipping away) , make the story more complete.
However, when the ending is completely and utterly changed with no regards to the book, I see that as a butchery of great beauty. In the latest version of "The Scarlet Letter", Dimmersdale doesn't die but runs away with Hester. Fans of romance films get their happy ending but the point of the book is completely missed and the message ruined. The point is you can't run from truth. And so far, no one has dared to make a version of "The Little Princess" in which Sara's father does actually die (although that's the plot of the book). I think they should. She's a princess because she can face life with courage and and can go on even if her father is dead.

Only if the alternate ending was what the original screenplay called for or source author wrote. Too many times Hollywood producers and studios pressure directors for changes because early screenings with focus groups were negative, but the end result usually doesn't improve the film.

I can give a good one and a bad one

Good: Die Hard with a Vengence. Simon gets away with the gold. McClane is held responsible and is fired. He tracks Simon down back to Germany and confronts him in his office. He has a rocket launcher with no gun site. He tells simon he wants to play a game of simon says.

He will ask simon questions and puts the launcher between them. If simon gets it right, he can turn the launcher to point toward him or McClane. If he gets it wrong he must fire the rocket.
He ends up blowing himself away.

that was my favorite alt ending of all time.

Bad: ROCKY BALBOA. Rocky loses in the real movie. But in a alternate ending he wins.

I think it was best that he lost. It would have left too much openness for a sequel and this was Balboa's last movie. Hell the sub title was: the final round.

I agree with you completely! What I like about movies is that they are a story with an ending. Sometimes when I have a DVD that gives alternate endings, I break down and watch them, but I'm almost always sorry.

No I don't they should write their own screen play and stick to it .No one buys a ticket to have to finish the job for them.
