Well, I "almost" like it.

I like the idea of honouring the father with his name but I also feel that it should be individualized somewhat, both to avoid identity confusion down the road (which is frequent and often a BIG hassle, especially for legal matters) as well as to give the child his own identity.

John is such a common name and has many derivatives that you could use which would still honour the father, but individualize the son such as:

Jack
Jackson
Jonathan
Zane
Shawn/Sean
Shane

etc.

First- if you want your son to be a "junior" he needs to be named exactly the same as his father. If he is to ever be a "second" or "ll" His son will need to be named exactly the same added with "third" or "lll".
That said, we'll move forward with the names:

Johnathon or Jonathon or Johnathan

The idea is to give him a full first name, so in the future if he so desires to be called a name that is "bigger" like him, he can. He can always be called John, but the option is there for him. It's kinda like having some growing room if he needs it. Which is definately something you have to get used to as a Mom.

Scott sounds like an abupt stop. A two syllable middle name would flow nicer in my opinon. Maybe Johnathon Evan or Jonathan Miguel.

I hope this helps and congrats on the baby.

How about Jonathan Scott instead. I'm not too big on the Jr. naming thing.

Or make it musch simpler, something that is both very cute when they're young, "cool" when they're a teen, and important-sounding when adult, yet still easy to pronounce:

Zane.

I have no problem with it. I think it sounds good. I like it.

it's really confusing when your child and husband have the first name for EVERYONE in the family... I did this with our first son and wish someone had stopped me!
