Yes, most times the Housing department will allow you to change roommates. However, you may be required to move to another room. Sometimes when you apply for dorm space, they have you complete a questionnaire and also ask if you have a preference as to who you would like to room with. They try to match like students together if at all possible.

If you end up getting paired with a roommate that you are unable to get along with, talk to your Resident Adviser. They may be able to accommodate your request. A word of advice, keep an open mind. Perhaps you'll meet a lifelong friend in your new roommate!

Best wishes!

All schools allow you to switch roommates. However, most schools at the beginning of the school year have a "grace period" where nobody can switch rooms yet as everybody gets settled in and determine available housing. At my college its two weeks. Most colleges will ask you work it out with your roommate and your RA before you request to move out.

I don't know of any schools which don't permit it, but you can only switch if there is someone to switch with, and usually you would then have to move into a different room, since if you are the one requesting the change, they want to inconvenience your roommate as little as possible.
