I live in Las Vegas. Anyone who lives here and is proud of their community calls it Las Vegas, not Vegas. As everyone has mentioned so far, there are many things to do here, just like any other city. I rarely go to the Strip, unless there is something special I want to do there, like to see a show, meet family or friends from out of town or to check out the new buildings. There is so much construction here right now and the look of the strip is going to be dramatically different over the next couple of years. I, have no problem with tourists though, they are the base of our local economy and should always be treated with that in mind.

I was born in Las Vegas. I hate the Strip. I only go there if I need to go to the Fashion Show mall or if I get free tickets to a show.
I've seen it all so many times, it's boring to me now. Although I'd probably go over there more if the traffic wasn't so bad. It's too nerve-wracking to drive down the Strip. The cab drivers are crazy and the tourists don't look when they step into the street.
If you live here, you usually do the main things other people do, go out to eat, go to a movie. I'd say the only thing different for those of us who don't go on the Strip is that the grocery store and Kmart and stuff have video poker machines.

In Vegas you can do anything imaginable. The strip is geared for tourists. I enjoy going to just people watch. Not often though. You definitely do not go there to gamble if you are a local. The off the strip casinos have better payouts and great give aways. Locals get breaks on most shows and attractions. We do not have to pay the tax. But you have to check in advance. Eating is better off the strip also.

I've lived in Vegas for 7 years and unless you work at the Strip, you don't WANT to go to the Strip often. Unless you have nothing else to do but party and get drunk and have annoying ugly guys (who think they got game) hit on you, then do it. haha. It's entertaining sometimes...you can be another person for a night! haha. ( reference: "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" commercial )
The Strip gets annoying...seems like the only thing we have to do here, but there's other things to do like hiking, rock climbing, photography at Red Rock Canyon. "Fishing", jet skiing, cliff jumping @ Lake Mead or Lake Mojave. Camping! Mount Charleston, Hoover Dam. And there's also First Fridays for artsy types. Go driving around town and get lost...find new places to eat or drink. OH! The Lakes near Summerlin is really nice at night. =) Soothing and relaxing... Seven Hills also has a nice spot sit and look at the bright lights of the strip.
It's pretty amazing to see how much this city has grown within the past 7 years. =)

I've lived in Vegas for over 5 years now. There's a lot of things you can do like go to the bars/clubs, watch shows, go to Red Rock Canyon or the Grand Canyon and many more...I don't really go the the strip that often because there's too many tourists.

I worked in the music business for many years and did shows in Vegas alot. I agree with the locals. The strip is no fun unless you want to hang with annoying tourists. I tend to want to escape to the great outdoors. I hike and stuff and get out of town and away from the crowdswhen I go back there to visit friends.

I used to live in Las Vegas for 8 years, and nobody that lives here really goes out to the strip unless you have company in town. You just do other things you would in any other town...

Yes, almost 20 years. Las Vegas is like any other big city, except we have gambling. I don't need to go to the Strip to gamble, I can do it in my neighborhood. There are casinos all over town.

I live in Henderson just outside.
And you are right.
I work on Wamr Springs just blocks from the strip and do not go there.
Last visit was on Thanksgiving when my frined came for a weekend.
I work and we live a life just as you do in your town.
I do not go to the strip much as the traffic is crazy at times.
I love it but can have more fun at the casinos in Henderson.

There is good and bad everywhere in the world. If all you see is bad then it's going to be the same anywhere you go. No, horror story here. I married a wonderful man and we will be having a family shortly. I moved to Las Vegas from NJ three years ago and I love it. I've actually seen worse living in NJ. We're talking bags of cocaine in bushes in front of our home and drug dealers openly dealing on the streets below. At night a girl with a bat came and sat on my front steps. And the smell from the refineries...yuck!
