first off it sounds like two seperate issues. first the stalling problem, it sounds like a fuel delivery problem. the fuel pump electrical circuit runs through the oil pressure warning system. so in other words... check the oil pressure sender. make sure it is in good condition. it sounds like whatever the problem is it is happening in closed loop, which means it is looking at the o2 sensor, when it goes into closed loop it reads the oxygen content in the exhaust and adjusts the air/fuel ratio accordingly that means it could be seeing too much fuel ( hydro-carbons ) in the exhaust and cutting off fuel. another important thing is to make sure that the throttle position sensor ( the sensor that measures the amount of movement the throttle plate incures ) is reading at about 0.8 to 1.0 volt and should read 4.5 volts at full throttle. this is important because if it is reading high the ECU will think it is wide open throttle or flooding, and will shut down the injectors. next if that is within specs. you should look at the map sensor ( manifold absolute pressure sensor ) that tells the computer what altitude your car is at by measuring the amount of vacuum in the motor.it should be at about 150 hz. or so. next if you cant find a problem with any thing it might be in the motor, that being the case you need to take out a really heavy big baseball bat and beat the crap out of it and start hoofin' it!!!!:)

What motor is it? Do you have a cel on? Vacuum leak, maf sensor is common, egr stuck open. When did this happen tells a lot also. Mpi or tb ? You put on a new fuel pump did you also install a new filter? Maybe it could be water or bad gas

Well I don't know about thew first problem, but the second problem where you get to 50 mph - sounds kind of like a torque converter issue to me. I could be wrong though. I only say that because my grandmother had an "A body" Gm car which was always having issues with the torque converter. She had the V6 - do you have the V6 or the l4?

Is your exhaust good?? The pipe may be a inner outer pipe combo--the inner can collapse--not letting the gasses go out--stalling the car. Maybe the carb is no good--all the wires and stuff will still rely on the carb delivering the proper fuel/air mix to the cylinders. Spend a few bucks and go to a shop. get a pro to look at it

Assuming it is multiport fuel injected (MPI) or throttle body injected (TBI) you might have a bad throttle position sensor.

Other thing that sounds suspicious is the catalytic convertor might be bad or plugged up.

Good Luck!
