1) Being gay is not natural. REAL Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around for a long time and hasn't changed at all: women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal. So we can't let it change now.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed - the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more unwanted children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. Which is why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Hey, folks, this is SATIRE. It is to make fun of the stupid reasons some people give for banning gay marriage. I love most of your answers, though! :)

Wow! I am going to be as nice as possible with this reply. NO, they are NOT good reasons because most of them aren't even true! This is coming from a straight person, but I'm still not against gay people. They have rights just like anyother person on this earth. And your going a little overboard with thinking people will want to marry their pets. How did you come up with that? Are you one of them? And why don't you think eyeglasses and air conditioning are natural? Are you against deoderant to? About Brittany Spears..... isn't there enough things about her in the media? She's got the money to do what she pleases and that's what she's gonna do. Moving on. I know of 3 people that are gay that come from a family of straight people. SO it's not anything in the genes. And if old people want to get married let them, who cares! Which brings me to something that really worried me. You said the orphanages aren't full and the world need emor unwanted children. What the heck. So does this mean that your gonna push for teenage pregnancies so there are more unwanted children. I mean this seriously. I really don't get your point. And why do women have to be owned? They can do things for themselves. Most children are raised by a mother and her love. The onlything the father gives is the money. I just don't see how you can be so negative and single-minded.

I don't see the reason for all the fuss, actually.
Clinton and Obama voiced their opposition to gay marriage in the latest debate, but I doubt that either of them really oppose it. It is simply not politically popular to support gay marriage at this time.
We are way ahead of where we were 20 years ago. Back then, the issue wouldn't have even been discussed. Give it time.

No! Sorry! I am not gay myself, but I believe that every person is entitled to be who and what they really are, and I don't believe that any one else has any right to tell anyone else how they should or should not live, as long as they are not committing criminal offenses....or directly harming others! If one person has a problem with the lifestyle of another, the person with the problem should just stay away from the other person. *sm*
