It's the one and only place where all nations can come and sit down and talk about their problems. They may not settle everything, especially the major big problems, but there are a lot of little issues that we don't necessarily hear about that are settled there. It isn't only the UN itself that is so important, but it is the other groups that they run. How important is UNICEF, WHO, UNESCO? These are major organizations that help support important parts of our civilization. Without WHO, who would be out there helping the underprivilged small nations fight off AIDS. We all know about UNICEF, how many of us have carried around our little containers for pennies at halloween to get money for the poor children. UNESCO helps with the arts around the world, they are very busy now trying to get back the stolen art work that was taken by the Nazi's during the war, it may not effect you personally, but there are a lot of people who lost everything and are now getting a part of their lives back.
So, the UN is more than just all these politicians sitting around discussing the fate of the world. But, I think that is very important too. Think back to before this horrible war. Hans Blix went to Iraq and did a very good job of looking through Iraq and came back saying there were no materials of mass destruction. And how right he was. It's good to have an independent arbitrator. I am definetly Pro the UN, I think we really need it. Without it there would be utter chaos.

It isn't anymore. When it first started it had great ideals and goals. Now there a bunch of thieves and cowards. They should be moved to Paris where they would fit right in. Peace Tribs, It only takes 1or 2 votes from a major UN member to kill a vote. The US does not make the rules. We have lost on issues in the same way as with your Cuba comment :(

At a UN meeting recently, 158 countries voted to lift the sanctions off Cuba. 2 countries did not- America and Israel. The sanctions were not lifted.
It just shows that America rules the UN, why badmouth it?
Why have a UN when only one country makes the rules?

It's not important. It's an extremely corrupt organization. The US should not be a member.
