I'm using flexible pvc tubing for my pond. The tubing is smooth on the inside and I was told to use a barbed fitting with a hose clamp on the outside. I have 1 1/2 tube and 1 1/2 fitting. But the tubing wont slide on, I've tried as hard as I can to foce it but to with no success.

My question is will PVC Primer soften the tube to the point where it will stretch over the fitting?

had the same problem when hooking up my well
use a heat gun or a hair dryer on high to soften the plastic pipe, ran a 100 ft ext cord. or a propane torch [very sparingly] then shove it on the fitting,
primer will soften it tooo much.

you should definately use the correct fitting. Go to the home center with a sample to make sure it fits well or go to a plumming supply store, they will be more than happy to help!
