1. Yes this is normal don't worry!
2. It is brown because this is old blood that did not find it's way out right away. Now how blood is bluish purplish when you look at your veins well thats like this. When the blood is touched by air it starts to dry up and turn brown. Just like when you get a cut and the blood starts to dry.
3. There is why of telling when it will turn red but of course it is going to sooner or later.
Hope i helped! And congratulations on being a woman! :)

It is brown because it is old blood. For whatever reason, it didn't flow out right away. I think I would only worry if it happened often. It may turn red (fresh) or not. If it happens again, ask your Dr. or an ARNP (female) women's health Dr. (which might make you more comfortable asking).

From OSU student health services site:
Old Blood before period

Question: For the past 5 months I have started my period with old blood and then ending with old blood. Is this normal? I recently had intercourse I am I wondering if the blood was from rough intercourse. I started this particular bleeding 9 days before my normal period.

Answer: You’ll most likely see this brownish blood at the beginning and end of your period, and its nothing to worry about. You should have the brown discharge in your underwear checked out by your doctor only if it is accompanied by a foul or fishy odor. In that case, it could be an irregular discharge or sign of infection.

Yes, it's normal. It's brown because it's old blood that's been sitting in your uterus for a little bit. It may or may not turn red.
