I know that scene! I remember it very clearly. It was the scene where Mina and Dracula exchange blood--remember that? Dracula drinks Mina's blood, and Mina drinks Dracula's. THEN, Harker, Doc Seward, Doc Van Helsing, Morris, and Godalming enter the room, in an attempt to EXORCISE the demon-vampire. Van Helsing WAS indeed holding a cross, but it was not burning when they entered the room. Remember that in vampire legends, vampires are allergic to crosses, so to speak, or any other holy object. Dracula MADE IT burn. That's why the cross which Dr. Van Helsing was holding was burning... Get it?

=Edit=

The scene that pipi08 had just described was a good scene in the movie, but it wasn't the one with the burning cross. The scene with the burning cross was the one I just mentioned.

Is it the one with Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing?

If it is, I don't remember him holding a buring cross, but I remember him holding a burning staff and putting a circle around himself and Mina when the Brides of Dracula were attacking and since they couldn't cross fire to get them, they slaughtered the horses.

It could have been a cross, but it has been so long since I've seen the movie I don't remember.

Dracula was covering his face partially, with his arms, crossed!
