Mary,
This is a difficult question to answer. First of all, I am a Christian and I do not support the war. I support our troops; however, I think we were deceived by the President and his Administration and are in way over our head's. Not all Christians support the war. I must tell you that I was raised a Cathiolic; however, I was non-practicing in my faith until a year ago when I found an amazing contemporary non-denominational church that isn't afraid to address topics that need to be discussed openly. So in a way, I almost consider myself new to Christianity. I don't have all the answers and never will, but I can offer an opinion. Generally speaking, the Republican party and its followers are more conservative than the Democratic party. They are more inclined to request prayer in schools, the Pledge of Allegiance before classtime, and will more likely refuse to have "under God" removed from any American slogans, songs, etc. I believe that Christians tend to gravitate towards the Republican Party because of their conservative beliefs. I also believe that generally speaking (I am not trying to lump into one category) Christians and/or Republicans are often more patriotic because their views are more grounded with what this country was created on. Of course, President Bush is a Republican President. To get back to your question on killing... To kill anyone, of course, is immoral. However, there is a great difference between killing someone for the pure sickness of it and killing someone to defend your beliefs and protect your country and its people. No one wants or likes war. God does not want death. Sometimes it is unavoidable. Even though President Bush's ratings are extremely low, there are still so many Christians that support him, and for that, I cannot explain or understand myself. As a side note, death was looked at much differently in historical times. It was more an act of heroism, or in Jesus' case, an act of love. I hope this makes some sense. I would be interested to read the other viewpoints, since I am not completely sure myself.

IMO it's because the conservative fundamentalists are being told that they have to take the whole package.
If you are against abortion because it is killing a baby, and the same politicians who cater to them are saying that you also must support the war, then they do.
There are many varieties of fundamentalists, not just "white baptist men".
There are the Mormons who are ideologically far from the above mentioned group, many at the top are very rich, who are also conservative republicans.
I think the "4th." element of politics, (the media) has been bought by the rich.
Who are the rich? the men in power.
What do they want? To stay in power.
Our country is being hijacked by a few very rich, very powerful people. They don't want it to be handed back to the people.
What better way to weaken the ordinary citizen but to manipulate them by fear.
It doesn't hurt to have quite a few of the very young men "give their lives" in "service to the Country". Fewer voters that way. Think Vietnam.
There are more Catholics than any other Christian denomination.
The midterm election showed that there are fewer people who are in favor of this war than people who are for it.
I don't know if there is any connection there.
The fastest growing religions in America are The Jehovah's witness, the Mormons and the Muslims.
I don't know if there is any connection there either.
So maybe I don't know the answer, but I believe this is a big part of it.

I think most of us would like to be out of this war. But we also support our country rather than tear it down in a time like this. Would you ask this question if the war was fought on our own land? Or would you expect Christians to opt out. This isn't the first nasty war we've been in. For that matter, when has there not been a war some place on the planet? Personally I'd like peace but I know that won't happen under the governments of men.

Because the War was over in 2 weeks. We thought we were setting up a government that represented all peoples, rebuild their infrastructure..that's what we did in WWII. We never thought we would have terrorists from Iran and Syria coming across the border and attacking our troops in the most cowardly way.
Our troops are not there to kill anyone, but when you get shot at or your convoy is blown up by some cowardly act. You respond.
Why do the liberals never complain or voice there opinion against the governments that sponsor terrorists coming in from Syria and Iran killing our brave Men and Women serving in our beautiful America. They would rather cuddle next to dictators and thugs.

its not just that christians believe in it
christians are the one RUNNING the war in this country
yes killing is sinful- but we would rather raise havoc over abortion when it is a life that is not even brought to this world
as compared to war when people who actually HAVE lives & have been living can be killed

It is misguided to say that killing is immoral. I've seen situations where killing was a moral imperative. So I support the war and I support more killing, not less.

They are hypocrits.
This is nothing new, they have killed in the name of christianity since the religion began.
Remember the Crusades ... now that was christianity at its finest.
I think this quote by Seneca sums it up:
"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful."

Why do "liberials" sit back and do nothing while half the world's population still treat women like cattle? Why do they sit back and do nothing while Saddam killed millions of his own people? Why did they sit back and let 12 million people die after they ran from Vietnam? Why do they sit back when the USA has a seven year waiting list to adopt and 50 million babies have been slaughtered and sent to land fills? Who exactly is killing more people??? Which philosophy has is saving more lives???

Read the Old Testament, and then see if you can say with a straight face that the bible teaches that killing is immoral.
