You didn't help it any. That's for sure. You almost certainly did some harm to the rear brake pads (disc brakes) or Shoes (drum brakes) They are probably glazed and the disc or drum is probably scored. They may fail you when you need them most. Have it checked out. The repair is turning the drums or disks and replacing the pads or shoes. If your front brakes are ok you are probably looking at around a hundred bucks.

It wasn't rubber you smelled, it was the brake pads. I doubt you did any serious damage, but just to be safe, have the brake pads checked. Good luck (and make sure the parking brake is disengaged before putting the vehicle in gear!)

I did this once and it smelled awful, but didn't permanently hurt the brake as far as I could tell. I drove about 20 miles before I noticed.

My father did this on my dodge truck a couple of years ago and drove it for over 40 miles. The drums were shot after that, but nothing else wrong with the truck. You may have caught it in time. Good luck!

if you only drove that short of distance you may noy have hurt anything. but you need to remove the rear wheels and drums to see how much brake shoe lining you have left and did you crack the lining from over heating. drums can be diffacult try striking the outer flat face with a hammer to break the rust loose. never hit the outer edge as you could put the drum out of round

well release the e brake and then drive it some more. you most likely did very little damage but to be safe take it to a shop and have them remove the rear wheels and take a look. now if you drove 50 miles i would suggest you tow it in

just rember to leave the emgcy brake OFF, the smell was the heat generated by the brakes, , if they still work they should be ok, if it takes you a while to slow down or stop them by all means replace the pads, there glazed over and wont give you the stopping power you need,

Sounds like you probably caught it in time. The emergency shoes are in the back, and are not your primary brakes shoes. You didn't do them any good but it doesn't sound like you ruined anything. I have heard of people driving with them on long enough to catch the car on fire.

brakes that whole mile you droved, it's nothing major

autozone or any other store that sales brakes and get some
