i just bought one yesterday, and he is soooo mellow!! he didn't jump or anything when they went to pick him up out of his cage at the pet store, and whenever i hold him he just sits there. i don't think he's sick or anything, coz like he moves and stuff in his cage. oh, and whenever i go to pet him, he shuts his eyes and tucks his head in towards his body. does this mean he likes it, or is he trying to tell me "hey! leave me alone!" i named him cuddles coz like i said, he just sits in my hand, but also because today i was holding him and he sorta snuggled right in between my belly and my hand and he stretched out a bit like he was cuddling. :-)

another question. i also found a lil toad at work yesterday. he's significantly smaller than the other, but they seem to be getting along. but the little toad is wild. do you think he will survive being in a cage? even if i have a "friend" for him?

question number 3!!!
how do i feed them??? the ppl at the pet store said that they eat crickets (the smaller one-aka rascal- would eat small crickets, the bigger one-aka cuddles-would eat bigger crickets. But how do I feed them? I bought the crickets and tried to feed them last night, but they wouldn’t eat (probably due to stress). But they still won’t eat tonight!! I don’t want to leave the crickets in the cage because I don’t want them (the crickets) to die, and also they would hide under the bedding and the toads wouldn’t be able to find them/eat them. So will they eventually eat the crickets, if I offer them to them for like five minutes each night?

I've kept American toads and firebellied toads, and I don't think they really like that much interaction. I see the closing of the eyes and hunching down as a way of protection. Predators may try to blind their prey, and by tucking their head downward, this protects their bellies and internal organs, since this isn't covered by their skeletons.

One thing to be careful about in putting a wild toad in with the one you bought is that the wild one may be carrying parasites that it could pass to the first toad. Also, if they aren't the same size as they grow, the larger one may eat the smaller one.

Toads will eat just about any kind of insects or earthworms. I would just put them in the tank and let your toads catch them themselves. I fed mine at least 2-3 times each week. In my Americans, whenever they were excited (as whenever there was food in the tank) the middle toe on their back feet would twitch.

What kind of toad is it? is it a pacman frog those look like toads and are REALLY REALLY mellow they hardly even move lol

Throw in around 5 crickets and just leave them there, they wont die unless you have a shallow pool of water then they might drown but let the toads catch them by themselves.

I didn't read the whole question, but I would advise against putting two toads of different sizes together, as one may eat the other. (they don't always have to be bigger, just hungry ;) )
