You could always ask her to get a prepaid cell phone and you could work around the house to earn minutes for it... she should go for that :)

Can you pay for it? If you're just added to the family plan, can you pay to buy the phone and the extra charges every month for your service? That would be the easiest way to convince her. I have the money, I can pay.
I don't know why your mom doesn't want to get you a cell phone, whether it's money or whether she doesn't want you wasting a lot of time text messaging your friends in class, chatting till 2 a.m., etc.
I gave one to my very irresponsible son when he was 15 because it was like a leash. I could call him anytime and know where he was, or I could say, "check in every hour" and he had the ability to do just that. And when he was hit by a car on his bicycle, the bystanders fished in his pocket, found his phone, and called "MOM." Yes, that was a brain-surgery matter.
I feel like it's a safety issue, but then I live in a big city, and maybe you don't.
So where were we? Oh, here. Mom is the boss and if she says no, we're screwed. Present the I'll pay for it idea, if that doesn't work, present the safety issue. That's the best you can do, honey.

Well since you have to walk to and from school tell your mother that it would be a thing for you to have a cell phone just in case something happened on the walks to and from school. If she starts to talk about the cost then just ask her for a prepaid phone. I would recommend Simple Freedom. The phones are cheap and you have wireless internt access and many other things. This will definatley work, that is how I got my cell phone

This is how it worked for me. My dad agreed to get me a prepaid cell phone my eighth grade year, so I had very limited minutes. I only used it to basically call him and let him know where I was, what my plans were, or if I needed to have a quick 2 minute chat with a friend. I had that for about a year and a half, and once he saw that I was responsible with it, he got me a good phone. Try that.

Tell her your idea...it's also a safe thing for teens to have these days, you can tell her that too. Also, cell phones are a lot cheaper these days and as long as you stay w/in your minutes coverage is cheaper as well...Let her know you are willing to help out a little around the house to earn the cell phone.

With all that happening, you should have a cell phone. What would happen if a practice is canceled? You need a way of communication with her.

Instead of attempting to convince her, have a discussion with her. Tell her you're going to be busy with all these activities and who you want to keep in touch with (you didn't mention that). Just being busy alone isn't a reason, you have to want to keep in contact with someone, I am assuming a parent. See what her thoughts on the matter are.

Tell her what you just told us. Also, tell her that you would be fine with a prepaid cell...she wont worry about the bill getting too high and if you abuse it she won't be locked into a contract. Good luck!

if you plan on using it for emergencies only, or calling her when your practices run late, or your meetings run over it is a good idea. . or if it is raining, and you need her to come pick you up from whatever activities you are involved in. i would explain to her that would be the reason you'd use the phone
