140 hp 305 V8 became the standard engine with the 150 hp 350 V8 and 180 hp 400 V8 both optional. California cars got a 160 hp 350 as the base engine.

Actually, "Specious" is incorrect; the 454 was discontinued in 1975 in the Monte Carlo. The only engines were the 305 (rated at 140 hp), 350 (rated 150) and the 400 (rated 180). The California standard engine was a 160 horsepower 350.
