Ice has to be applied in the first 20 minutes after an injury. It is to reduce the amount of swelling that may occur. What you need now is heat to help relieve the stiffness and reduce the pain. You also need to be sure that you have not either dislocated or broken your thumb. Neither of those injuries will heal well by themselves. If you are able to move it freely (even though it may hurt to do it) it's probably just sprained. If that is true the heat will help. Wrapping won't really do any good unless you are just wrapping it tight against your hand so you don't accidentally catch it on something and make the sprain worse. Overall, wrappingis not something you would normally do for a sprained thumb. BTW - I'm not a medical doctor - though I am a doctor. If you think it might be broken or dislocated you shouldn't try to treat it yourself.

You could try popping it, but if you can't ice and tape are a great choice! Also ask your doctor if it still hurts after 2-3 weeks.

Wrap it in a bandage. It'll stop you from moving it too much.

I wouldn't play vollyball for a while. Or at least avoid doing sets.

What about going to the doctors and having it checked out? It could be just sprained. Wrapping it to keep it immobile is a good idea.

Stop stretching it. It's just sprained, it will get better eventually. You might want to tape it to help keep the swelling down, ice may help as well.

pull it back further until you pass out.
if you wake up, put it in a tub of ice cream until it turns blue.

then go to the doctor and tell him your head hurts.
