People worry about inheritance. Recall the brouhaha over Anna Nicolles Baby? Which is why people get so upset when women bear children 'out of wedlock.' By stamping 'Illegitimate' on a Birthd Certificate it is being stated that this child has no claim over the man's estate, only those children deemed legitimate can do so. Even in cases when a Man made a behest for an illegitamate child, if the 'rightful family' chose to fight they often prevailled. Imagine you are sitting on a Jury - - - how do you react to the knowledge that someone is 'Iligetimate.'
In modern terms - - - Bogus - - - youi can imagine the headline - - - Bogus Baby Bags Big Bucks - - - about an illegitimate child lucky enough to find a sympathetic jury.

It's the law of North Carolina. Virginia once had a law which called for involuntary sterlization of those who were mentally retarded.
