Bush war adviser says draft worth a look By RICHARD LARDNER
Fri Aug 10, 7:06 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the all-volunteer force and made it worth considering a return to a military draft, President Bush's new war adviser said Friday.

"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with National Public Radio's "All Things Considered

Bush has systematically set this Country up for a draft with his polices in the Middle East. He knows that the problems he has escalated abroad will have to be dealt with eventually, and it isn't going to correct anything by occupying Iraq for 50 years. As Bush has said prior "He would leave the Iraq quagmire for future Presidents to solve", That will be a Democrat come 08 elections. Bush is passing the buck as a lame duck President that America never voted for in the first place. The Conservatives will get an eye opener, and have to really participate in this war for oil and profits instead of fake role playing of military avatars here on Yahoo Answers to sway opinions. Sometimes you get what you give you know!!!

If you really have to go to war as a last resort, having a draft makes sense. Not asking all who can serve by not having a draft w/o loopholes leads to bad decisions like illegal wars based on the venial interests of corporations and institutions that profit from wars of any kind. The war in Iraq and the possible attack on Iran are examples of bad decisions that are partly based on not having a military draft and sharing the pain over the population. A draft would make going to war and using the military for non-defense purposes a more serious issue. Government should only go to war by an Act of Congress declaring war based on having a national draft as a factor. This mercenary volunteer military that we have now only encourages bad foreignj policy decisions and govenment's overuse of militaristic approaches to peace.

28 million is the budget the military draft starts as early as June 15 the plan is now activated the state of war on terrorism
the us may have no choice to draft that being rums field prediction The defence is young people 18-26 women and men to perform in the military as the civilian defence Dodging the draft is like dodging the Vietnam war
this is our future we all have the power of voice to change
I think our beliefs on power and old religions of who did us wrong and now we seek revenge earth will be transformed into just rock we will continue fighting anger instead of getting over it young people deserve to dream not die by the hands of destruction

I think the draft should start with all males, who are not in school, who are not working, and who are in a gang.

I don't care if they have 10 babies from 5 different women odds are they don't know their own kids.

Perhaps illegals should be drafted, you want to come to America live off its offerings, well drop the lettuce and pick up a rifle.

The Army is exceeding its goals. By Congress authorizing end strength increasement, (don't hold your breath) alone they should provide an Army large enough to defend America. I cannot believe the Marine Corps has shrunk from 450,000 to a mere 150,000.

There is an Army of approximately 1 million radical islamists
with training bases and monetary support within these United States that are somehow allowed to remain.(libs/aclu). These numbers are extremely Conservative but rest assured, these madmen will stop at nothing to destroy the Western World especially America.

Look at the major conflicts in the world besides Iraq/Afghan

Muslims attacking Christian within countries. Other countries they are simply infiltrating..i.e. America....

A better question is why are our public colleges considering and in the process of installing foot basins for a religious purpose at tax payers expense while removing crosses and bibles from those same institutions of learning.

I say increase our end strength back to the cold war levels of at least i.e. 2.1 million perhaps 2.5 million. Bring home our troops from Europe they can take care of themselves, and start protecting our borders.

I will say, there is no easy answer to the middle east, millions have died over the last 3000 years.

But there is something wrong about keeping people slaves, with no freedom of religion, to assembly, freedom of speech. Something wrong about making a Lady wear a potato sack over her head, not allowed to attend school, she must sit in the back of the car, I have seen this in Canada and even the U.S.

Freedom which is something we here take for granted, however in China they cannot even read our remarks and add their own thoughts based on educated studies and their own history.

Why do Liberals hate America, Christianity and its own Armed Forces, but embrace socialism, aclu and terrorists.

As it isn't up to Bush to enact the draft, it is up to congress, I really don't see the draft coming back. The congress is not pro the war and wants to figure a way out of the war, not enhance the war, so why are they going to send more boys and girls over there. You have to remember Bush may be President, but he doesn't have total control over everything.
The draft isn't coming back all that easily.

i already served my 4 in the Marine infantry proudly. right now i'm in the inactive ready reserve and they have called upon some of my brothers to return to active service. its in our contract.
i wouldent be happy if they recalled me. i did my time and saw enought. i couldent imagin what it would be like to be a civilian with no thoughts of ever serving and be a soldier in iraq, it might be kind of funny...anyway theres not going to be a draft, cause of nam and what happened then and the fact that most americans are lazy, scared and complain. Besides the fact the war is unpopular, it would just piss more people off.
so you have nothing to worry about.
