The author is Robert Ludlum. He also wrote "The Bourne Identity" and "The Bourne Supremacy."

Robert Ludlum wrote the Bourne Ultimatum, but the Bourne novels that were written after his death were penned by his good freind Eric Von Lutsbader. He was asked to step in by his family and considered it an honor.
