While it is true that Taranaki is the name of a mountain (previously called Mount Egmont), it is actually a region.

New Zealand is split into 24 regions (further amalgamated into 16 administrative regions). Taranaki is the region that covers part of the western side of the North Island.

It is neither. It is a volcanic peak in the west of the North Island. It is called Mount Taranaki.
